THE BIG BEAR STOMPERS "The Bears Are Back"

PKCD-275

This excellent Frisco-style band, led by Dave Moorwood was originally formed in 1989 and played at the Bude Festival a couple of times. In 1997 they disbanded, but now, I am pleased to say, they have come out of hibernation to delight their audiences again. This CD was recorded live at Lains Barn in Oxfordshire in March 2005 with their special guest Jim Maihack on trombone. Jim was a sideman with the Turk Murphy band so he is very familiar with this style of jazz. The other band members are Ben Cummings and Tony Davis trumpets; Mike Wills clarinet and sop sax; Perry Lock piano; Dave Moorwood banjo; Geoff Hull sousa; Tony Isaacs washboard and Judy Eames vocal on 5 tracks. The tunes are:- Big Bear Stomp, Bay City, Coal Cart Blues, Aggravatin' Papa, Someone Stole Gabriel's Horn, Black Bottom Stomp, Jazzin' Babies Blues, Melancholy Blues, Milenburg Joys, Thick Lip Stomp, You Ain't The One, Friendless Blues. A great CD of Frisco-style jazz. (63 mins)

THE JOHN MADDOCKS JAZZMEN "Old & New"

PKCD-276

It's almost a tradition in recent years at Bude that the Festival starts with John's thrilling band playing to a packed house at The Falcon Hotel, and 2004 was no exception. I think this is possibly the band's best CD to date; a few tracks are from the Falcon Hotel session but most come from their second, equally exciting session at The Hartland Hotel later the same day. The line-up is unchanged from their last CD (PKCD-257 'Lucky For Some') and the tunes are:- Rhythm King, San Jacinto Stomp, On A Coconut Island, Blame It On The Blues, St Philip Street Breakdown, Gee Baby Ain't I Good To You, Gatemouth, Stevedore Stomp, Goin' Home, Sweetheart Of Sigma Chi, Buddy's Habit, Lonesome Blues, All The Girls Go Crazy 'bout The Way I Walk. KEITH NICHOLS' LITTLE DEVILS "The Charmful Little Armful"

PKCD-277

I recorded this fabulous session at the Bude Festival of 2003. Many of you will know that if you go to a live concert with one of Keith Nichols' bands you are in for a real treat - as well as superb jazz you can look forward to two hours of great entertainment - this session was no exception, and I'm very pleased to say the atmosphere has been successfully captured on the CD. Keith's recently formed 7-piece band played a wonderful musical tribute to the great Fats Waller. The line-up is Enrico Tomasso trumpet, James Evans clarinet and saxes, Adrian Fry trombone, Keith Nichols piano and vocals, Martin Wheatley banjo and guitar, Jim Ydstie double bass, Richard Pite drums. They were joined near the end of the session, on three tracks, by Matthias Seuffert clarinet and tenor sax. The tunes are:- I'm Crazy 'bout My Baby, The Minor Drag, Keeping Out Of Mischief Now, Wildcat Blues, My Fate Is In Your Hands, Ain't Misbehavin', Serenade To A Wealthy Widow, Livin' In A Great Big Way, I've Got My Fingers Crossed, Fats Waller's Original E Flat Blues, A Handful Of Keys, Dinah, I Believe In Miracles, Your Feet's Too Big, The Joint Is Jumpin'. Great tunes, top musicians, fantastic entertainment. (66 mins)

THE RAE BROTHERS NEW ORLEANS JAZZ BAND "Far Away Blues"

PKCD-278

Here is the eighth CD by this great New Orleans-style band - all eight are listed in this catalogue. Their individual brand of mostly ensemble jazz - simple, relaxed and heartfelt - is deservedly very popular. On this recording, at the 2005 Keswick Jazz Festival they are joined on trumpet by Peter Wright. Peter and Clem Avery now share the trumpet chair in the Rae Brothers Band. The other band members are the same as on their last CD (PKCD-246). The tunes here are:- Don't Sweetheart Me, Blues For De De, Shake It And Break It, Far Away Blues, Rum And Coca-Cola, Sweet Magnolia Blues, When Your Hair Has Turned To Silver, Float Me Down The River, My Little Girl, The Colorado Trail, Down In Jungle Town, Gypsy Love Song, Music Music Music, Mexicali Rose, Aura Lee, Coquette, Oh! Didn't He Ramble. (67 mins)

HARLEM HOT STOMPERS "Senior Moments"

PKCD-281

Here is the first CD by this excellent band, based in the North-west of England. Their last recording (a cassette I believe) was in 1998 - they should have been recorded far more frequently than they have. Don't make the mistake of confusing them with Harlem (Paul Munnery's big band); this is a seven-piece band playing the music of the classic jazz era by Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet etc. I first saw the band at the Keswick Jazz Festival several years ago. I was very impressed, and it is a great pleasure to have recorded and produced their first CD. The band line-up is Bill Smith cornet, Tony Foulkes clarinet, soprano & alto saxes, John Ronan trombone, John Reade piano, Ian McCann banjo and guitar, Dave Parr double bass, Dave Berry drums. The tunes are:- It's Shufflin' time, Smokey Mokes, Chimes Blues, Egyptian Fantasy, Harlem Bound, Put On Your Old Gray Bonnet, Georgia Swing, Flow Gently Sweet Afton, Snag It, The Cakewalk in The Sky, Mezz's Tune, Mama's Gone Goodbye, Oriental Man, My Blue Heaven, Bogalousa Strut. THE CHARLESTON CHASERS "The Clouds Will Soon Roll By"

PKCD-285

I recorded this wonderful ten-piece band at the 2005 Bude Jazz Festival. For many years the "Chasers", led by Sean Bolan, have successfully recaptured the magic of the hot dance band music of the 1920s and '30s, and it was a thrill for me to be able to capture some of that magic on CD. The band line-up is Sean Bolan cornet, Peter Rudeforth trumpet, Olly Wilby, Nick White & Robert Fowler reeds, Adrian Fry trombone, Raina Reid piano, Martin Wheatley banjo & guitar, Debbie Arthurs percussion. The tunes are:- I Would Do Anything For You, The Clouds Will Soon Roll By, When The Morning Glories, Lazybones, Spanish Stomp, East St Louis Toodle-oo, I'm Crazy 'bout My Baby, Allah's Holiday, I Get The Blues When It Rains, That's Georgia, Telling It To The Daisies, Limehouse Blues, Swamp Blues, My Baby Just Cares For Me, Stardust, Steaming South, I'll Be A Friend With Pleasure.
