GORDON WHITWORTH'S BIX TRIBUTE BAND ". . . . With Pleasure"

For years the music of Bix Beiderbecke has fascinated Gordon Whitworth. Eventually in 1999 he brought together a group of equally dedicated musicians to play a musical tribute to Bix:- Gordon Whitworth cornet, Norman Field cl, alto sax, Derek Halford tb, Jon Penn pno, Dennis Mowatt sousa, Nick Ward dms. The tunes include:- Tia Juana, Oh Miss Hannah, San, Clementine, In A Mist, Ostrich Walk, Our Bungalow Of Dreams. (73mins)

DAVE MOORWOOD'S RASCALS OF RHYTHM with Digby Fairweather and Jim Fryer "Hors d'Oeuvres & Other Tasty Morsels"

This CD by Dave Moorwood's band contains 15 tracks of pure musical delight. The band line-up is the same as PKCD-144 but with guests Digby Fairweather (cornet) and Jim Fryer (trombone and occasional tuba). Once again this small band produces a huge variety of sounds, due to the multi-instrumental talents of Mike Wills and Tony Isaacs, and also the presence on most tracks of one or both of their hugely talented guests. ROGER WELLS' NEW ORLEANS HOT SHOTS "Breeze-ing Along"

This CD by Roger Wells' band, in my opinion, places them firmly among the top handful of New Orleans-style bands in Britain today. They achieve a superb balance between ensemble playing and carefully placed solos; Steve Graham's trumpet playing is both sensitive and thoughtful, and at times as hot as any you'll hear; and the rhythm section has a lightness which lifts every tune. 13 tracks - (67 mins)

THE JOHN MADDOCKS JAZZMEN "Two In One"

This excellent CD was recorded live at the 2001 Bude Festival. The line-up, unchanged for several years, is the same as their last two CDs. The band has a wonderfully interesting and rewarding repertoire; just look at the list of tunes - The Girls Go Crazy 'bout The Way I Walk, Rhythm King, Black Cat On The Fence, Frog-I-More Rag, St Louis Blues, Stevedore Stomp, The Dormouse, Petite Fleur, Harlem Bound, Papa De Da Da, Moose March, Royal Garden Blues, Flow Gently Sweet Afton. (72 mins)

THE RAE BROTHERS JAZZ BAND "At Your Request"

Recorded live at Bude 2001, the emphasis is, as always, on ensemble playing; the whole band plays superbly throughout. The line-up is the same as on PKCD-161, and the tunes include:- Put On Your Old Gray Bonnet, Little Old Wine Drinker Me, Sister Kate, Love Songs Of The Nile, Royal Telephone, My Old Kentucky Home, Carry Me Back To Old Virginny, Dusty Rag, Should I, When The Swallows Come Back To Capistrano, Put On Your Ta Ta Little Girlie, Way Down Upon The Swanee River, 'deed I Do, Any Time. (73 mins)

THE GOIN' HOME BAND with Viv Rogers "Hymns And Spirituals"

Here is the second CD by this superb New Orleans-style band, recorded live at a church concert in November 2001. The lineup is the same as PKCD-137. Viv Rogers sings on four of the 16 tracks. The tunes include:- Lord Lord Lord, Amazing Grace, His Eye Is On The Sparrow, Sweet Fields, In The Garden, Walking With The King, The Old Rugged Cross, Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross, What A Friend We Have In Jesus. (74mins)
